Some information about the artist
Joseph Brockwell is a photographer with a focus on the unascertainable qualities of connections, identities, and relationships that are shared throughout all of us as individuals. By providing a unique optic on subjects commonly disregarded he explores themes of abandonment, loss, and apathy with compassion and care. The things photographed by him are an abstract representation of experiences, observations, and the ideas that they generate. There is often a distinct lack of physical people in his images but this absence is only a material one, in concept it's always about humanity. The philosophy behind Joseph’s work is an unrelenting belief that images from ordinary vision can be re-contextualized through the optic of photography to illuminate concepts and elements that would otherwise be neglected. The images that move him to grab his camera are subtle, evocative, and multifaceted.
Joseph has had his work published in Reveille and Labelless Landscapes. His images have also been exhibited at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center, Plaza Arts Center, Mason Fine Art, The Bakery Atlanta and SCAD.
He is currently a graduate student at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
